3rd Grade

About Ms. Anulat

Dear Third Grade Parents/Guardians,

I want to welcome you and your child to Cathedral Chapel School’s third grade class. I am eager to help your child have a successful, rewarding, and enjoyable school year.

It is my goal to create a learning environment where students can mature in their faith as they reflect on their special role as member of the Catholic community. I actively engage their eager minds by incorporating manipulatives, technology, and cooperative learning experiences. I tailor lesson plans that is Christ centered, to meet their diverse interests, as well making connections between the school and everyday life. I recognize parents as the primary educators of their children, therefore I consistently inform them on a regular basis to promote participation and involvement in the educational process, reinforce education in the home, and boost students’ self-esteem.

Here’s an overview of your child’s academic year:

In Reading, we will develop skills of word attack and vocabulary, comprehension and smooth expressive oral reading. We will use our basic reading text, dictionary, library, as well as classroom books, independent reading materials, magazines, and newspaper. I will guide them so that they will read, comprehend, analyze, create mental pictures, do critical thinking, and most of all, to learn life skills and develop a love of reading. We will enjoy poetry, role-playing and dramatizing stories.

In Language, we will develop writing and speaking skills, improve sentence structure and vocabulary, and the ability to write different types of paragraphs, reports, and summarize stories.

In Math, we use Eureka Math, and it has seven modules. The basic thrust will be computational skills of adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing and the application of such skills. We will also develop skills in solving word problems in various ways, reasoning, fractions, decimals, measurement, and Geometry.

California Elevate Science emphasizes identifying problems, promotes open exploration of science ideas, and culminates in a product that demonstrates student understanding. It highlights local, real-world problems for students to investigate as they apply science and engineering to their own lives. The California Elevate Science embraces three-dimensional learning by connecting several topics into single instructional segment.

In the third grade performance expectations, students are expected to demonstrate grade-appropriate proficiency in asking questions and defining problems; developing and using models, planning and carrying out investigations, analyzing and interpreting data, constructing explanations and designing solutions, engaging in argument from evidence, and obtaining, evaluating, and communicating information. Students are expected to use these practices to demonstrate understanding of the core ideas.

Each unit in Religion covers an important area of Catholic belief and practice. There are four chapters in each unit in which the first chapter centers on doctrine (creed), or “What Catholics Believe.” The second chapter focuses on liturgy, or “How Catholics Worship.” In addition, the third chapter centers on Catholic moral teachings, or “How Catholics Live.” Lastly, the fourth chapter focuses on Catholic prayers.

California History- Social Science myWorld Interactive applies the latest research and technology to effectively engage students in social studies through civic involvement and literacy. Students will learn about their world while covering the core history-social science standards. Students will interact with the content by connecting, investigating, synthesizing, and developing their understanding.

The standards of good behavior are integrated in the curriculum and are expected of your child throughout the school year. If you have some concerns about your child or any school matter, please make an appointment with me and I will be most happy to meet with you. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter and I am looking forward to a wonderful year of learning and fun.

Sincerely,

Ms. Norma Anulat
